The motto for the state of Ohio comes directly from the Christian Bible. ‘With God, All things are possible’. This motto is derived from the book of Matthew in chapter 19. It is the entirety of verse 26. According to Robert Struble, the motto was brought to the attention of the Ohio political engine by a nine year old boy. After three years of campaigning, the boy saw this phrase adopted as the official motto for his home state.

There have been multiple archeological finds that date civilization in the Ohio valley all the way back to 13,000 BC. These people were nomadic, and they seemed to have vanished before more stable civilizations came around in 1000BC and later. European settlers did not begin arriving in the area until much later, in the late 1700’s.

Ohio is the only state in the country that was never officially admitted to the Union. While many people thought the state was, it seems that there was a congressional oversight at some point. Thus, in 1953, a special session of congress allowed the leaders of Ohio to sing and pass a bill that retroactively made the date of its admittance to the Union March 1st of 1803.

Most people don’t know that Ohio is a very seismically active state. While these events are not as common as they are along major fault lines and plate boundaries, more than thirty were recorded just in the past five years. Most of these quakes are small, but there are plenty that can be felt by the people who live in these areas.
